Passion Takes Flight – An Angry Birds Wedding Shoot

Like many wedding themes found on this blog the challenge is always transforming a unique and nontraditional theme  into something classy and elegant. For couples who struggle on how to  approach such a task, you will love today’s styled shoot from Live View Studios based in North Carolina. This colorful, feathery shoot proves that you can take inspiration from a popular app based game like  Angry Birds, about cartoon birds and pigs at war, and transform it into an elegant wedding with a few subtle touches.

“Who has seen an Angry Birds inspired wedding? When the idea came to us,” wrote photographer Brent of Live View Studios, ”we looked and found a few groom’s cakes & details based on the game but nothing that incorporated it in as an overall wedding theme. With Angry Birds being with one of the top 10 apps & with 1 billion downloads as of May this year, we thought, why not create a wedding inspiration from the game, using elements creatively instead of basing it only on the characters? Keeping the elements of stone/brick, glass, wood, & feathers, and the primary color palette in mind, we, along with a very talented team of vendors, set out to design a rustic couture (entitled Passion Takes Flight) wedding with slingshot pens, tumbled concrete structures, a gold crown & golden eggs, a treasure chest for notes written by guests, and more.”

Subtle references to the birds in the game were found in the styling from the feathers on the bride’s shoes, bouquet, garter, eyelashes and hair; an elegant touch combined with her traditional white wedding dress.
The ceremony area was set with a backdrop of colorful origami birds with white feathers and florals in blue mason jars lining the aisle. ”The bouquets and boutonnières had a very organic feel,” wrote photographer Brent, ”with feathers, vivid pops of color, and twine wrapping. Our flower girl dropped feathers down the aisle from a birds nest, and also looked beyond adorable in her gold crown.”

The guest book table incorporated wooden crates which served as shelving for various decorations; candles wrapped up as TNT, handmade wood sling shot wedding favors, golden stars and piggy banks. Additional favors included bird seed ‘thank you’ favors kept in a wooden crate.

Blue martini cocktails topped with rock candy were the signature drink paired with silver feathered table cloths for the cocktail reception. Guests then transitioned into a sit down dinner with glass plates & napkins accented with a crown napkin ring sat atop a bold red linen, and nests with golden eggs served as table place settings. A field of greens salad and pulled pork, “our menu HAD to include pork barbeque, as the ultimate irony for the pigs from the game,” says Brent.

Dinner was followed by an Angry Bird themed wedding cake by Linacucina placed atop vintage trolley carts (similar to the ones in the game) serving as the cake stand. The bottom tier featured hand painted grass design with a the top tier embossed with a brick texture, and a nest of golden eggs topped the cake. Two additional cakes, with fondant ‘feathers’ lining the sides and accenting the tops, were perched on towers reminiscent of the game, and the table top was covered with moss and river rocks.

The characters from the game make an appearance as cake pops, so cute and fun from Raleigh Cake Pops.
