If you’re going to propose with a virtual engagement ring, which is a totally amazing idea, you better have a real one to back it up. Luckily for Chandler Murch, who just so happens to work at Valve, was able to get his hands on a yet-to-be-released HTC Vive virtual reality headset to propose to his girlfriend Kelly Tortorice in both virtual and real life.
The news came from the bride-to-be’s public Facebook feed, and the proposal took place in a Vive testing room at Valve’s headquarters in Bellevue, WA. She said yes, by the way, to a non-imaginary ring after the headset was removed to find Chandler on his knees with the real thing.
“So there I was, typical day…on a sunken ship deck; fixing robots; painting three-dimensional fire; walking through the Alps; and then suddenly, a virtual engagement ring started floating my way. Chandler told me to grab it. Then told me to take off my headset, and there he really was, on one knee, with a real ring. It wasn’t imaginary anymore. But I didn’t say yes. I said, “OF COURSE I WILL MARRY YOU!” Thank you for such a hilarious and fun surprise. I love you and I can’t wait for the life ahead of us..”
