Its been awhile since my last update, and fittingly as wedding season is upon us, I’m back and there’s so many awesome weddings to come!
I want to thank all my readers who have continued to follow and support When Geeks Wed while I’ve been away these past few months to focus on my career, and to everyone who has submitted photos and requests I promise I will be emailing you all very soon!
Thanks again for all your support. I hope to see you all in June!
On June 7th I will be participating in a 12 hour gaming marathon along with my husband and other members of the Faction 9 Gamercast for charity. All donations will go to my local Children’s Hospital in Oakland to help provide video games, toys and stuffed animals to kids. Judging from last year’s playlist I’m in for a whole lotta Halo Grifball for most of those 12 hours, but what I really want to play is Transistor!
I recently did a fun interview for fellow geek girl and blogger Jamila for her Girl Gone Geek blog, the latest in her “Blog Crush” series.
“I’ve been crushing on When Geeks Wed since its birth back in January of 2012. The title says it all, When Geeks Wed is what happens when two geeks have a nerdtastic wedding. Cassandra features everything from invitations, fashion, food and more! I can’t lie, her blog makes me want to get married every day just so I can have all sorts of geeky weddings.
Warning: When Geeks Wed will have an addicting Pinterest-like effect on you!”

It’s been a few weeks since my last blog post and some regular readers might have wondered what happened. Well it all started with my sister’s long awaited fairy-tale wedding in May. After over a decade together she finally married her Prince Charming in their favorite place on Earth Disneyland! Devin of Illustrate The Date made the above guestbook poster which turned out amazing (looks just like them) and was a huge hit. I’ll post some of the wedding photos once I can get my digital hands on them. After the wedding I came home from my vacation and noticed my computer was making load and extremely annoying sounds (which ended up being a broken fan blade on the power supply). This was my Husband’s chance to rebuild and upgrade my five year old computer which ended up taking much longer then expected to complete.
I’ll also be slowly answering the many, many emails in my inbox and getting more wedding submissions up. Thanks for your patience!
I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since I started When Geeks Wed! I’ve loved sharing my geeky wedding ideas with all of you, all 485 posts of them, and receiving so many great submissions from Brides, Grooms and amazing photographers along the way. Where did it all start? One post about a Portal 2 Engagement and from there grew into hundreds more, the most popular one being my Elegant Black + Gold Batman inspiration board. I hope to find more time this year around to post more, grammer check more (d’oh!) and have more DIY projects and original content posted.
A big thank you to all of my readers from the ones who has been with me since the beginning to all the new ones who have just discovered WGW. You all make this blog what it is today and me want to continue posting and creating content for another year. Thank you again for all your comments and support.
To celebrate, I will be hosting a One Year Blogiversary Giveaway!
I was recently asked to contribute my thoughts on an article for Big Shiny Robot on “Geeks and Pinterest” written by Scarlett RoBotica. If your unfamiliar with the site BSR is a nerd news and reviews site and is apparently the SKYNET of our day run entirely by robots, or so they say.
Do You Take Marriage Seriously? That is the question being asked in the article “3 Reasons You Shouldn’t Have A Movie-Themed Wedding“. Mainly focusing on the “alarming” Harry Potter, Twilight and The Hunger Games themed wedding trends; the author writes, “you know what is real and should be taken seriously? Your marriage. And there’s something about basing the most important relationship of your life on a fairy tale that spells trouble for the future. ” What does a Tiffany or diamond themed wedding say about a marriage? I’m in it for the money. It’s your day, your money so why not celebrate your union your way.
My interview with Gaming Angels, the premier online community where women go for all things geek!…
This month’s Geek Woman feature is Cassandra from When Geeks Wed. When Geeks Wed is a great site for female geeks particularly for those wanting to plan a geeky wedding. The site has great geeky party themes as well, there is definitely something for everyone. When Geeks Wed is joining the She’s Geeky Inc network of sites and I want to introduce everyone to Cassandra!
GamingAngel: Tell us a little about yourself – would you consider yourself a gamer? What are some of your favorite geeky things? What are you playing lately?
Website relaunch! When Geeks Wed has moved from whengeekswed.blogspot.com to whengeekswed.com. One of the biggest reasons for this change was the fact that Pinterest’s pin it buttons don’t work correctly in Blogger, or at least I couldn’t get them to work, so I changed to WordPress. Of course nothing ever goes smoothly and you may have noticed that we are missing a lot of posts. This is because the blogger importer brought in all the photos as thumbnails instead of at their normal full resolution size. So I have hidden the posts that I haven’t had a chance to update, painfully by hand, but they should all be up by this Monday.
I hope you enjoy the new site and look forward to hearing your feedback. Don’t forget to update any links to the old site and redirect them here. In addition, because of the domain change I am extending our free advertising campaign until May 1st! More details here.
