Fans of the BBC science fiction series Doctor Who are going to love this styled shoot full of great inspiration for you and your companion’s wedding day. Huge Doctor fans themselves, photographer Candice Benjamin and Kiera of Jakfoto Films came up with the idea to put together a chic, Doctor Who styled shoot. “It gave us an excuse to watch more of the show AND try to pack in as many show references as possible without hitting people over the head with them, says Candice Bejamin. “We like to call them Easter-eggs. Our goal was to design a gorgeous wedding for those not familiar with the show, and for the fans let them have fun picking out Doctor Who references.”
Fans will definitely be able to ‘pick out’ those references throughout the shoot from the Tardis inspired window panes used in the ceremony, the Van Gogh/Doctor Who wedding cake by A Twist of Cake, the wedding stationary with Gallifrey writing and even the sophisticated color scheme that feels so Doctor Who. There is also a great wedding day video “Through All of Time and Space: Wedding Inspiration from Doctor Who” that accompanies the shoot from Jakfoto Films. The music on the video, “Doctor” by Chris Bartels of Anthem Falls Music is a beautiful instrumental that perfectly sets the mood for the bride and groom’s vows.
“I’ll take you as my Companion forever through all of time and space, I’m yours”…
I came across this amazing Doctor Who styled video on Vimeo and was just blown away by everything about it. The music, “Doctor” by Chris Bartels of Anthem Falls Music is a beautiful instrumental that perfectly sets the mood and accompanies the bride and groom as they read their vows.
“I’ll take you as my Companion forever through all of time and space, I’m yours”…
You’ll find lots of great ideas to incorporate the Doctor into your own wedding in this video; the Tardis inspired window panes behind the officiant, the Van Gogh Doctor Who wedding cake by A Twist of Cake, the Gallifrey wedding stationary. You can tell these wedding vendors, Jakfoto Films, Candice Benjamin Photography and First Pick Planning, who styled this video are not only great at what they do but Doctor Who fans at heart.
It’s still one of the most famous on screen kisses in cinematic history. The moment when pampered Lady and streetwise Tramp share a moonlit plate of spaghetti, unknowingly share the same noodle to find their mouths meet for a surprise kiss.
It’s been 57 years since Disney first released the animated film Lady and The Tramp on the big screen. Photographer Kaelyn Elizabeth brings you back to that alley behind the Italian café with her romantic Lady And The Tramp styled engagement shoot. “Although it isn’t a real engagement session, I think it shows modern, current brides ways to incorporate their favorite films in to their engagement session in an effective and adorable way,” says Kaelyn. “I knew I just HAD to do the spaghetti scene (SO cute and SO lovely) but could a pair of human love birds do those cute dogs justice? Yes! Brett and Laura perfectly embody those two timeless characters for me. A gorgeous red head and a scruffy adorable man from perhaps the wrong side of the tracks.”
Based in Eugene, Oregon photographer Kaelyn Elizabeth styled the entire shoot herself working with only Shauna, a local jewelry designer who owns Lemon Kissed, to make the Lady and Tramp initial necklace for the shoot.
Earlier this week I featured his Walking Dead Engagement Shoot shot at the show’s production location in Grantville, Georgia. Today, I have another beautiful (yes, I said beautiful) zombie themed shoot from photographer William Hogan owner of Famous William Company. Collaborating with The Funky Shack an art studio that caters to designing weddings, and weirdly, has a connection to the popular AMC zombie series. Scenes of Season 3 of The Walking Dead were filmed in their studio with zombies being decapitated right in the space where they hold design consultations with their brides!
The Zombie Wedding Bash is more than just a fun zombie themed shoot. It’s a charity event benefiting Camp Southern Ground a camp created by Zac Brown for children of all needs. “Not only did The Funky Shack get involved with this awesome charity,” says William, “they got us involved too and had us there with the photo booth at their Zombie Bash!!”
William grabbed the zombie bride and groom and took some beautiful shots of them, as well as the amazing zombie inspired desserts by Simply Catering, using only his iPhone’s camera!
Like many wedding themes found on this blog the challenge is always transforming a unique and nontraditional theme into something classy and elegant. For couples who struggle on how to approach such a task, you will love today’s styled shoot from Live View Studios based in North Carolina. This colorful, feathery shoot proves that you can take inspiration from a popular app based game like Angry Birds, about cartoon birds and pigs at war, and transform it into an elegant wedding with a few subtle touches.
“Who has seen an Angry Birds inspired wedding? When the idea came to us,” wrote photographer Brent of Live View Studios, ”we looked and found a few groom’s cakes & details based on the game but nothing that incorporated it in as an overall wedding theme. With Angry Birds being with one of the top 10 apps & with 1 billion downloads as of May this year, we thought, why not create a wedding inspiration from the game, using elements creatively instead of basing it only on the characters? Keeping the elements of stone/brick, glass, wood, & feathers, and the primary color palette in mind, we, along with a very talented team of vendors, set out to design a rustic couture (entitled Passion Takes Flight) wedding with slingshot pens, tumbled concrete structures, a gold crown & golden eggs, a treasure chest for notes written by guests, and more.”
The film Brave, set in the highlands of 10th century Scotland, follows a young princess named Merida who defies an age-old tradition of marriage. A skilled archer, Merida competes in an archery tournament for her own hand in marriage which causes chaos in her kingdom. For this shoot Merida (Jenny) finds her prince, her arrow choosing her future husband (Chris).
Inspired by San Francisco’s reputation as the home port of Eros, or Cupid, the shoot was shot at a small park on the Embarcadero along San Francisco Bay known as Cupid’s Span. A large bowstring drawn back, poised on the feathers of the arrow, points up to the sky behind the couple which ties into the archery theme in the film.
A dark, Gothic theatrical concept wedding shoot inspired by the film Snow White and The Huntsman paints a portrait of the Evil Queen on her wedding day. The castle inspired location, Dunvegan Keep, located in Austin, Texas is the perfect backdrop for its architecture lending itself to great photographs in a unique setting. The film is based on the German fairy tale version of ”Snow White” compiled by the Brothers Grimm and stylist Jen of Jen Rios Design and the talented Leslie Spurlock Photography and Todd Stricker did a fantastic job of capturing that darkness from the Brothers Grimm version.
A unique take on the Harry Potter wedding theme this styled shoot even has a pumpkin butter beer wedding cake! Magically transporting your wedding to the Great Hall of Hogwarts is Michigan based photographer Jeffrey Lewis Bennet of JLBWeddings. With some help from the event coordinators at TooFoot Creative along with Bill Hamilton Designs, Sweet Heather Anne, Gourmet Invitations, Affordable Elegance and Sweet Distinction they did an amazing job transforming this Michigan Union Ballroom.
The focus of this Harry Potter themed dessert table is the pumpkin butterbeer wedding cake by Sweet Heather Anne, surrounded by golden snitch macarons, sorting hat cupcakes and a Treade truffle tower.
It’s a full on themed wedding photo shoot war and photographer Casey Fatchett has thrown down the metaphorical gauntlet. Not to be outdone, Casey has not one but three amazingly geeky photo shoots inspired by The Hunger Games, True Blood and Game of Thrones.
“Remember when there were a whole bunch of Hunger Games themed wedding photo shoots right when the film came out? Brides, bloggers, and everyone in the wedding industry are always on the lookout for the next ‘big thing’, and pop culture plays a big part in that. But perhaps we should take a closer look at what is actually going on at the source. Here are three wedding ‘themes’ you may want to reconsider- The Hunger Games, Game of Thrones, and True Blood. This is a long blog post, so plant your tongue firmly in your cheek, strap yourselves in and…LET THE GAMES BEGIN!”
